New RPA players touting their unique ability to provide an all in one solution that encompasses Computer Vision, AI and ML is misleading. You should not trust anyone who cannot or will not give specifics of their offering.
With the rapid growth in the RPA industry comes misinformation and myths from providers that sometimes have absolutely no experience and are just jumping on the bandwagon. The failure rate can be high, and with that the effects can also impact an organizations willingness to continue a successfull RPA initiative.
Look deep and ask for the facts 
RPA is becoming a mainstream business strategy, but it can be complex and therefore cannot be accomplished in an all-in-one black box solution. It is critical to choose a vendor or partner willing to be completely transparent. One who will provide you the ability to understand the full spectrum of the solutions provided, methodology, underlying technology etc. Do not follow the shiny object and pretty websites alone. Ask questions: do they have any Bots in production that they can demonstrate to you or any real-world case studies that can be quantified? Are they a marketing company that provides RPA or an RPA provider?
Key leading questions to ask – Buyer Beware!
- Can they provide a detailed Process design document (PDD) and full Statement of Work with clearly defined Deliverables?
- Do they have an industry standard Methodology?
- What are the underlying RPA tools being utilized and if so, are they an industry standard or 5–10-year-old legacy tools?
- How do they define success?
- Is it a black box Solution and can it be customized?
- Will they offer a Guarantee?
- Can they provide actual use cases, references? Anything but a slick website?
